Cost of Ownership

Cost of Ownership

We are often asked about the costs of being involved in racehorse ownership. These obviously vary depending on whether you own the horse outright yourself or just a share in it.

Below we have listed the fees that apply if you buy a horse outright:

  • Training fees – £1375 (all cost whilst in full training excludes racing and major vets)… £280 when at grass
  • Registering as a sole owner – £100 (Registering as a syndicate is £320)
  • Buying your own colours – £120
  • Registering your colours – £46
  • Insurance costs – 3% at grass 12% racing (This is optional)

Racing Fees

  • Entry fee per race – From £60… higher grade races will be more expensive.
  • Travel – £1/mile or 66p if more than one horse going
  • Jockeys fee – £175

There are obviously a variety of ways in which you can become involved in racehorse ownership including outright ownership (where you own the horse 100%), partnerships and syndicates.

In the video below Oliver explains each of these.

At Stockton Hall we are strong believers in always keeping our owners up to date on what is happening with their horses, including where they are up to in their training and what the future race plans are.

We are always happy to have owners visit the yards and to have regular telephone catch ups but we have also implemented a new platform called RACING MANAGER which has been very well received by our current owners.

In addition to entry/declaration, breeding and form updates, owners receive regular updates from Josh, Dan and myself including footage from the gallops and schooling grounds, updates the morning after a horse has run as well as updates at regular intervals on racedays.

The video below gives you a lot more information about RACING MANAGER, we hope that you find it interesting.
